Transportation Planning Guide for Citizens Released
It's How We Get There That Matters—A Citizen's Guide to Transportation Planning is a colorful brochure about regional transportation planning. The Citizen Advisory Committee designed this Guide for the general public—folks who may not be familiar with the world of transportation planning. Original artwork by local student Michelle Yockelson, an original sketch of Kalapuya Indians by local artist Susan Applegate, and historical photos enhance the Guide and give it a distinctive touch. Copies of the Guide are available free of charge, by clicking on the link above or by contacting Kathi Wiederhold at (541) 682-4430 or kwiederhold@lcog.org.

Public Hearing on Coordinated Population Projections
LCOG held a public hearing on December 13, 2007 concerning 2030 and 2035 Coordinated Population Projections for all city urban growth boundaries in Lane County. These coordinated projections are required by Oregon Statute 195.036 which directs the County Coordinating Body to establish and maintain a population forecast and to coordinate that forecast with local governments in the county.

The resolution and supporting material considered by the LCOG Board is available on the LCOG Board meeting page or for inspection at the Downtown LCOG Office located at 99 East Broadway, Suite 400, Eugene, OR 97401. For more information, call (541) 682-4435.

GWMA Action Plan Available for Download
The Southern Willamette Valley Groundwater Management Area (GWMA) Action Plan (PDF download) has been finalized by the GWMA Committee. The Action Plan contains about 60 suggested management practices that could help to restore and protect the groundwater in the Southern Willamette Valley for future uses. There are actions that may be taken by individuals, businesses, and agencies—almost everyone who lives or works within the GWMA has an interest in the groundwater resource, and an opportunity to protect it. The Department of Environmental Quality is expected to formally accept the plan this month.

The Long Tom Watershed Council, McKenzie River Trust, The Nature Conservancy, Bureau of Land Management, McKenzie River Trust, Lane County Parks, National Park Service, and City of Eugene are jointly sponsoring a process which will develop an open space vision for the ridgeline area. LCOG is coordinating this effort. Located in the southern Willamette valley, the ridgeline area is a twenty mile corridor that follows the major ridgeline spanning the area between Fern Ridge Reservoir to the west and Mount Pisgah to the east. The area contains recreational trails; prominent area landmarks such as Spencer Butte; unique habitats; headwater streams; and picturesque farm and forest lands.
