Transportation Marketing Intern

Internship Description
The Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) Transportation Team is seeking an intern to support the second annual Walktober campaign, a regional effort to celebrate the many benefits of walking and encourage more Lane County residents to walk for fun, exercise, or errands. This intern will assist with Walktober planning, administration, and promotion. Tasks include creating and scheduling social media posts, recruiting and communicating with event hosts, updating an online events calendar, planning and staffing in-person events, attending partner meetings, and more. This internship will also provide opportunities to attend other transportation marketing-related meetings and network with transportation staff at LCOG and other local agencies. LCOG recognizes that internships are a learning experience - the site supervisor will work with the intern to develop learning goals related to their internship.

Internship Hours, Compensation, and Location
This internship will run from late-August through mid-November of 2024, and requires a time commitment of 5-10 hours per week. The intern will receive a stipend of $150 per week. Internship hours will generally occur within the standard business day, M-F, 8 am-5 pm, although some tasks may be completed outside of those hours if desired, and some evening/weekend events should be anticipated during the month of October. This is a hybrid format internship, with some in-person time expected at LCOG’s downtown Eugene office and occasional off-site event support needed during the month of October. The intern will be provided with a laptop computer, monitor, and desk for on-site tasks, and may use the LCOG issued laptop computer elsewhere if they desire to complete tasks off-site. Off-site events would be within Lane County and LCOG would provide transportation if needed.

About Us
Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) is a regional planning, coordination, program-development, and service-delivery organization in local communities across Lane County. LCOG helps its 35 member organizations (including Lane County, twelve cities, six school districts, one education district, one college, two parks and recreation organizations, three library districts, four utilities, a transit district, two fire districts, an ambulance district, and a port) reach their common goals.

LCOG is also the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Eugene-Springfield metropolitan area and Coburg. The MPO is the lead agency for regional transportation planning and distributing federal transportation dollars, and works cooperatively with local governments and transit providers to set priorities for transportation needs. Within LCOG and the MPO, our Transportation Options (TO) programs work to provide the tools, information, encouragement, and support that Lane County residents need to safely walk, bike, bus, carpool/vanpool, and telecommute. We strive to help community members choose mobility options that improve air quality, reduce CO2 emissions, ease traffic congestion, and lead to better quality of life. LCOG held the first annual regional Walktober campaign in 2023, partnering with local businesses, nonprofits, clubs, the City of Eugene, City of Springfield, and more to spread the joy of walking throughout Lane County. This year’s second annual Walktober is shaping up to be another month of fun walking events, guided walks, self-guided walks, and walking challenges!
