Oregon Money Management Program

The Oregon Money Management Program provides free assistance to adults, age 18 and over, with personal money management tasks through specially trained and certified volunteers.  Program services are personalized, confidential and safe.

In Lane County, Money Management Program services are offered through Senior & Disability Services, a division of Lane Council of Governments, in partnership with the State of Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS).

Program Goals

  • Promote independent living and self-sufficiency
  • Preserve dignity
  • Prevent homelessness
  • Protect against financial abuse and fraud

Eligibility

Services are offered to eligible individuals who are at least 18 years of age. Priority is given to those with limited income and assets.

Services Offered

Payee Service

For individuals who receive federal benefits such as Social Security, Veterans Benefits, and Railroad Benefits, and are unable to manage their federal funds on their own.

Bill Pay Service

For individuals who remain in control of their personal finances, but need short-term help to maintain financial stability. This service is typically limited to three months, though ongoing assistance may be available.

Program safeguards

  • Staff and volunteers are screened, trained, certified, and supervised
  • Strict confidentiality is maintained
  • DHS provides training and operational oversight to local program offices
  • Client accounts are monitored monthly to ensure appropriate use of their funds
  • Client’s funds are protected from loss due to mistakes or misuse by program volunteers and staff
